How has the Hubble Space Telescope changed our understanding of the universe?

The hubble Space telescope

The Hubble Telescope is a space telescope that went into orbit on April 1990 carried by the Space Shuttle Discovery. Soon after it was sent into Orbit it was clear that its main mirror was ground inccorectly however this was fixed in 1993. Since then it has taken breath taking and amazingly clear and precise pictures of our Universe. These pictures furthern our understanding and knowledge of our universe as we are able to see for our selves, some of the deep abyss and mysterious places of our universe, including those within our own solar system and Milky way or remote far away galaxies. Some of these Galaxies, we are viewing, are only 13 billion years after the Big Bang. The hubble telescope can also view the ultraviolet parts of a spectrum.(since light takes time to reach, everything in space we view is in the past).

Seeing the past, we can piece together just some of the eternal and unsolvable puzzle of our universe. After many missions, the hubble telescope will be deorbited on around 2013-2021, when its successor, The James Webb Space Telescope will be placed in Orbit.

Journal: Sacramental

February 26, 2009 at 7:56 am (Uncategorized) (, )

Sacramental Journal:

1. Define the term ‘Sacramental’.

The term sacramental refers to the teachings of god’s scriptures, and strengthening other peoples connection with god and their understanding of the bible teachings. These may be in the form of God’s Graces, or the seven sacraments of Catholicism, the seven sacraments include: Baptism, Reconciliation, Communion, Confirmation, Holy Orders, Matrimony and anointing of the Sick.

2. For one of the following inspiring people of faith, describe examples of how they complete the following:

• Make God’s presence visible to other people.
• Witness to the new life of the risen Christ (grace).
• Help us to grow closer to god and to others.

Mother Theresa, Martin Luther King, Pope John-Paul, Nelson Mandela, Eric Lidell, Catherine Hamlin, William Booth

William Booth

William Booth is the founder of the Salvation Army, He makes Gods presence visible to us by his large contributions to helping those living in poverty, as we see his actions being done, the persistence, sacrifice and hard work he showed, we could see that the face of God was imprinted on him. We can feel the aura and presence of God and the Holy Spirit reading about his works, and the work that is continued today

He gives us the witness of the risen Christ and his graces by showing us the presence of God within our society, and how the suffering and poverty of people can stop and give rise to a life of happiness. The church of England even protested to Booths work, but eventually, they realised that what he was doing was good.

He helped strengthen our spiritual bonds with God by forming the Salvation Army, through the army we, ourselves, may show others the face of God by helping the people who desperately need it, and we can witness the risen Christ.

3. My Nominee, Mr Carr (?)

Mr Carr is the religious co-ordinator at Parramatta Marist High, He makes Gods presence visible to us by leading influential programs at our school, and whatever helpful thing our school does for the community, Mr Carr would be one of the top teachers on it. This itself, is the figure of God.

The St Vincent De Paul appeal, The Red shield Appeal, 40 hour famine, YCS are just some of the examples Mr Carr helps to bring to our school, these events and fund raisers show the people in poverty to rise with Jesus and be touched by god’s Grace much the same as William Booth did.

He helps strengthen our connection with God by giving us optional opportunities to take part in the events, this allows us to choose whether we can sacrifice our time and energy to help the people who are suffering. This is Gods message, and we are deeply involved in it.

Journal – Multimedia Data Types

A multimedia system is an information system that combines at least TWO to THREE types of media, such as text, hypertext, audio, images, animations and video.

1.) Provide a description and an example of each type of media listed above.

Text

Text is obviously, one of the most frequently used media. It involves written/typed up material, which convey the information through words. Many of the other forms of media will also use some sort of text to give out general information.

Example: Ning Blogs, the Ning blog, allows you to type up and read information that is usually accompanied by a video or image. The text is the main part of the body giving out 95% of the information.

Hyper text

Hyper text is used to give out specific sites or resources for the information. It is normally set out as a list of links to different sites and the name and/or a brief explanation of the site. New hyper links are usually blue while previously used links are maroon.

Example: Search engines such as Google, Dogpile or Yahoo, present many links that can climb into millions of different sites, which relate to the keywords of the search. Most of these links will have nothing to do with what the user wants.

Audio

Audio transmits its information through sound, it requires the user to widen their imagination and thought to suit it. As the user need to listen and take in the information conveyed by it.

Example: The most used audio media is the radio, although it is seen inferior to television it may never die out, as its information is just as valuable. The radio portrays many kinds of audio information including new, weather, gossip, sport and various songs and entertainment.

Images

An image transfers much valuable information. Most of the time they are accompanied by text, which helps us understand it’s meaning. Images can include diagrams, advertisements or maybe subliminal messages.

Example: Movie advertisement posters are usually made to attract passers by with brilliant colours and imagery. Using images to attract people is very common in today’s advertisements.

Animations

Animation, which is the sequence of images used together to create motion, is commonly used to convey information, as it is very easy to understand. It usually comprises of moving images accompanied by text and audio.

Example: The science focus website, which most students use to study with, uses a lot of animation. These animations are usually interactive and are very easy to understand, although lacking audio.

Video

A very commonly used media. Video can be described as a total mix between other different media’s including text, imagery, audio and animations. Videos are usually the easiest form of media to understand, its visual and audio aspects work together to form a greater understanding of the conveyed information.

Example: A popular example of video is the site you tube, although it contains some inappropriate materials, you tube consists of many tutorials and other helpful information that is easily understood.
