Sacramental Journal:

1. Define the term ‘Sacramental’.

The term sacramental refers to the teachings of god’s scriptures, and strengthening other peoples connection with god and their understanding of the bible teachings. These may be in the form of God’s Graces, or the seven sacraments of Catholicism, the seven sacraments include: Baptism, Reconciliation, Communion, Confirmation, Holy Orders, Matrimony and anointing of the Sick.

2. For one of the following inspiring people of faith, describe examples of how they complete the following:

• Make God’s presence visible to other people.
• Witness to the new life of the risen Christ (grace).
• Help us to grow closer to god and to others.

Mother Theresa, Martin Luther King, Pope John-Paul, Nelson Mandela, Eric Lidell, Catherine Hamlin, William Booth

William Booth

William Booth is the founder of the Salvation Army, He makes Gods presence visible to us by his large contributions to helping those living in poverty, as we see his actions being done, the persistence, sacrifice and hard work he showed, we could see that the face of God was imprinted on him. We can feel the aura and presence of God and the Holy Spirit reading about his works, and the work that is continued today

He gives us the witness of the risen Christ and his graces by showing us the presence of God within our society, and how the suffering and poverty of people can stop and give rise to a life of happiness. The church of England even protested to Booths work, but eventually, they realised that what he was doing was good.

He helped strengthen our spiritual bonds with God by forming the Salvation Army, through the army we, ourselves, may show others the face of God by helping the people who desperately need it, and we can witness the risen Christ.

3. My Nominee, Mr Carr (?)

Mr Carr is the religious co-ordinator at Parramatta Marist High, He makes Gods presence visible to us by leading influential programs at our school, and whatever helpful thing our school does for the community, Mr Carr would be one of the top teachers on it. This itself, is the figure of God.

The St Vincent De Paul appeal, The Red shield Appeal, 40 hour famine, YCS are just some of the examples Mr Carr helps to bring to our school, these events and fund raisers show the people in poverty to rise with Jesus and be touched by god’s Grace much the same as William Booth did.

He helps strengthen our connection with God by giving us optional opportunities to take part in the events, this allows us to choose whether we can sacrifice our time and energy to help the people who are suffering. This is Gods message, and we are deeply involved in it.
